Lorain, Ohio.  The picture says it all!!!  Little did John Filo realize at the time but he was probably taking one of the 20th Century's most iconic picture, one that he would receive a Pulitzer Prize.  John was a senior at Kent State University and was working as a student photographer.

It was just by shear accident that he was at that particular spot on the campus, by Taylor Hall, when the Ohio National Guard troops fired sixty rounds into the students.  Killed were four students: Jeffrey Miller, here lying on the ground, Bill Schroeder, Allison Krause, and Sandy Schauer.

The young girl kneeling by Jeffrey was Mary Ann Vecchio, a fourteen year old who had ran away from her family living in Opa-locka, Florida.  The look on her face - that iconic picture that John took - shows the horror, the anguish, the fear that she felt as she watched Jeffrey Miller lie on the ground, bleeding profusely after being shot in the mouth by the Guardsmen.

This day will live on forever!  Four people died needlessly - Bill, Jeff, Allison and Sandy. Several others were wounded.  May we never forget this day!
