“Ravensbrück … was a hell ... We were humiliated at every moment.”

“Ravensbrück … was a hell ... We were humiliated at every moment.” At Ravensbrück concentration camp, Blanka Rothschild was stripped of her clothes, forced to undergo a humiliating examination, and starved to the point that she had fainting spells. Ravensbrück housed primarily female prisoners from a variety of different categories and nationalities. They included Jews, like Blanka, as well as political prisoners, Jehovah's Witnesses, people identified as asocials and professional criminals, and others. Blanka was surrounded by prisoners who had lost all humanity, she thought, in order to survive. She saw them physically fight each other for food.  “We started to resemble skeletons,” she remembered. Blanka was later transported to a forced labor assignment that involved assembling airplanes in a factory in Wittenberg, a subcamp of Sachsenhausen. The SS began evacuating Ravensbrück in March of 1945 and in late April, forced 20,000 female prisoners on a brutal death march until advan

"A man and his wife went to the zoo. They found a Monkey who was passionately playing with his female. His wife said to him, "What a romantic animal." Then, they found a Lion and his Lioness separated from each other; the silent Lion sat alone in his corner as if the Lioness doesn't exist. His wife said to him, "What a sad scene without love." Her husband then said to her, “Throw that stone at the Lioness and watch.” When she threw the stone at the Lioness, the Lion roar to defend his Lioness, then she was asked to repeat it with the Monkey, the Monkey then jumped up and climbed the tree 🎄 and abandoned his female to save his own skin.  Her husband then told her, “Do not be deceived by what you see as romance in outward show, often times, it is a deceptive appearance just to hide an empty heart; there are others on the contrary who are relaxed, but their hearts are full of sincere love." Presently, we have so many in the monkey 🙊 shadow, and few Lion

This is an experimental tracked landing gear unit trialled on the B-36 Peacemaker. With a wingspan of 70 meters (230 ft) and a length of 50 meters (160 ft), the B-36 is one of the largest aircraft ever built. With its great size came great weight. Initially, the B-36 was to have a single enormous wheel with a 600 kg tire on each main landing gear. These wheels had a relatively small contact area for an aircraft of this weight, resulting in immense ground pressure. With this setup, the B-36 was limited to just a handful of air bases. The US trialled a tracked landing gear that improved the bomber's weight distribution on the ground. This idea had actually been circulated by J. Walter Christie, a tank designer, in the 1930s and researched throughout the 1940s. Previous trials had shown some success, but the B-36 was simply too heavy for such a system to cope with. A single flight in March 1950 was performed with the system fitted. The B-36 would eventually receive four-wheel bogies.

Australian went Into captivity 1941

Image
Australian went Into captivity 1941 On 7 December 1941, Australian aircrew of No. 1 Squadron RAAF, flying Hudsons, reported Japanese ships in the Gulf of Siam approaching the Malayan coast. The next day, the first day of the war with Japan, the squadron was in action and suffered its first casualties. Taking off from Kota Bharu, the Hudsons flew the short distance to bomb and strafe Japanese transports and landing barges. Flight Lieutenant JC Ramshaw and his crew of three were making their second attack of the morning when their Hudson was hit, and crashed into the sea. The observer, Flight Lieutenant DA Dowie, was the only survivor; he was plucked from the sea and became a prisoner of war. Aircrew continued to be captured through the following weeks. Flight Lieutenant CH 'Spud' Spurgeon was in action on 8 December and saw some 'pretty damned magnificent flying'. On 24 January his luck ran out. The pilot of a Hudson, he escaped Japanese fighters by disappearing into

"I was so weak that I could hardly stand," remembered Shony Alex Braun about his arrival at the Dachau concentration camp. As Allied forces advanced toward Germany in 1944–1945, the SS sent many Nazi prisoners to Dachau from other camps across occupied Europe, hoping that the camp's location in the German interior would prevent the capture of many prisoners on the front lines. Shony had survived Auschwitz and the Natzweiler concentration camp system before his transfer to Dachau.  One night, the SS guards took Shony, a talented violinist, from his barrack and demanded he play for them. Two other prisoners were also forced to play the violin. When the first prisoner began to play, he was struck by one of the SS officers and killed in front of Shony. The second prisoner refused and was also murdered. Fearing for his life, Shony began to play "Blue Danube," a song he had never played before. "My right hand and my left hand all of a sudden started moving in per

*** THE PAIN OF LOSS ***

*** THE PAIN OF LOSS *** If we believe that birds do not feel or that birds cannot suffer, we are taking for granted a truth of very short wings and very little true reality. Birds called "turtle dove" live as a couple until death, that is, they are monogamous. That's why we sometimes say when we see a couple of them "look at those two lovebirds!", attached and stuck as if life were in it.  And it is not surprising that it seems so, because the bond of their union is such that when one of them leaves, his partner is plunged into a very intense emotional loss, which sometimes leads to deep sadness and to let himself die without further ado. This sad image was captured by James Yule and represents the mourning and intense pain that these birds live for the loss of their vital company. Mary Timney - for the murder of her neighbour.

Image
Mary Timney - for the murder of her neighbour. On Tuesday the 29th of April 1862, 27 year old Mary Timney became the last woman to be publicly hanged in Scotland.  She was executed at 8.15 a.m. on a gallows borrowed from Edinburgh and erected at the junction of St David Street (now Irish Street) and Buccleuch Street outside the prison in Dumfries, before a crowd of some 3,000 people.   Mary lived in a cottage on a small farm owned by 40 year old Ann Hannah at Carsphad, near the eastern edge of what is now the Galloway Forest Park. Her cottage was just 50 yards from the farmhouse where Ann lived with her two brothers, Lockhart and William. It appears that the two women did not get on well and that there was a problem with Mary frequently trying to borrow money from Ann.  Ann also accused Mary of stealing wood from her.   Things came to a head on the morning of the 13th of January 1862 when Mary attacked Ann in her own home and beat her to death, after her brothers had left for work.  An

But when Jeremy’s dad arrived, his son was nowhere to be found, as was Jeremy’s friend Erin. Friends told Jeremy’s dad that the two left together in Erin’s car the night before and never came back. For years, rumors swirled about their disappearance.  Some said they ran away to Florida, while others said it was a drug deal gone bad. One person even said he saw them in the back of a truck with blood coming out of it. Police followed all these leads and more, but never turned up anything that might help them solve the case. But last November, a scuba diving YouTuber who works as an amateur investigator on missing pers

The Secret Life Of Notorious Pinup Girl-Turned-Recluse Bettie Page

Image
The Secret Life Of Notorious Pinup Girl-Turned-Recluse Bettie Page A titillating, black-banged pinup queen, Bettie Page was one of the most photographed people of the 20th century. She helped spearhead the American sexual revolution in the 1950s as she transitioned from mostly innocent lingerie modeling to bondage and S&M fetish photoshoots.  Then in 1957, she abruptly retired and went into seclusion for the rest of her life. She became so secretive for so long that many were surprised to hear of her passing in 2008 because they believed that she was already long dead.  After suddenly disappearing from the spotlight in 1957, Bettie Page’s later life was shrouded in mystery — but then she resurfaced years later in a series of violent scandals.  Though Bettie Page was the most famous postwar pinup girl in American history, her later life proved to be far less glamorous. By the end of ’50s, the most photographed model of the 20th century had become a total shut-in  Page’s introduction

This picture shows the sadistic killer viewing the headless body of his victim in the morgue This picture shows the sadistic killer. This man, named Arthur Eggers, was convicted of brutally killing his wife after an argument and going into a fit of rage. He was known as a mild mannered and friendly man by others who knew him.  He beheaded his wife, Dorthey Eggers, cut off her hands and drove her to the mountains to dispose her remains in several places. He wanted to cover his tracks anyway he could by taking her miles away from the crime scene and hiding her where he thought she could never be found. Fortunately her body was recovered but the head and hands were not found as he had disposed of them in the heavily wooded mountain ravines in different locations. (Yes it is a woman, it is the right picture I researched it more to make sure)  Investigation In January 1946, hikers came across a woman’s body, wrapped in a blanket, in a very remote area of the San Bernardino Mountains

The body of aviation hero Charles

The body of aviation hero Charles Baby The body of aviation hero Charles Lindbergh’s baby is found on this day in 1932, more than two months after he was kidnapped from his family’s Hopewell, New Jersey, mansion. Lindbergh, who became the first worldwide celebrity five years earlier when he flew The Spirit of St. Louis across the Atlantic, and his wife Anne discovered a ransom note in their 20-month-old child’s empty room on March 1. The kidnapper had used a ladder to climb up to the open second-floor window and had left muddy footprints in the room. The ransom note demanded $50,000 in barely literate English. The crime captured the attention of the entire nation. The Lindbergh family was inundated by offers of assistance and false clues. Even Al Capone offered his help from prison, though it of course was conditioned on his release. For three days, investigators had found nothing and there was no further word from the kidnappers. Then, a new letter showed up, this time demanding $7

He said he had only recently been given a blanket after remaining naked for days, and had fashioned the blanket into a kind of poncho.  The guards took him to a heavy box filled with military meal packs, he said, and hooded him.  He was told to stand atop the box as electric wires were attached to either hand. Then, he claims, they shocked him five times, enough for him to bite hi

This haunting silhouette was left on the floor of the Haunted Ridges Asylum in Ohio.

This haunting silhouette was left on the floor of the Haunted Ridges Asylum in Ohio. This belonged to a 54 year old female patient who ran away and went missing for 6 weeks. Sadly she was found dead in an unused ward. She had taken off all of her clothes, neatly folded them, and laid down on the cold concrete where she subsequently died. Through a combination of decomposition and sun exposure, her corpse left a permanent stain on the floor, which is still visible today. Here is the story In full The Athens Lunatic Asylum opened in 1874 and specialized in the treatment of criminally and mentally insane patients. The majority of the original patients were admitted by court order or by their own families. In the early years, “The Ridges,” as it came to be known, was recognized as a calm, peaceful place that benefitted the health of its patients. As the number of patients grew over the years, patient care declined and many new and more invasive therapies such as ice baths, electro-shock th

1RAR departs for Vietnam

1RAR departs for Vietnam On the 27th of May 1965, 1RAR departed for Vietnam on board HMAS Sydney. HMAS Sydney would go on to make a further 23 trips during the Vietnam war and earn the nickname “Vung Tau Ferry”, transporting over 16,000 Army and RAAF personnel to and from the war in Vietnam. 1RAR would operate out of the Bien Hoa Air Base with the US 173rd Airborne Brigade during its first tour of Vietnam. Initially, 1RAR was restricted to security operations defending the airbase. However, in September 1965, the Australian government lifted these restrictions, and 1RAR was able to be fully employed as a manoeuvre battalion. It participated in search and destroy missions, patrolling and security operations. 1RAR's patrol program reduced enemy activity around the Bien Hoa Airbase to an all-time low. In early 1966 1RAR was involved in Operation Crimp (8-14 January). This was a search-and-destroy operation in the Hobo Woods, north of Saigon. During Crimp, 1RAR uncovered the Cu Chi
